Webb City started on a farm. The city's own history says John C. Webb's plow hit lead ore one June morning in 1873, and the town's first board of trustees met on December 11, 1876, which puts its 150th birthday on December 11, 2026. Route 66 still runs through the historic downtown, and King Jack Park sits where the old Sucker Flat mines were. The housing is a real mix. Per ACS 2024 numbers, about half of the homes in town were built before 1980, yet more than one in five went up in 2010 or later.
The rule that matters most for a Webb City lawn is short. Section 220.130 of the city code calls weeds or grass a public nuisance once they reach six inches. After five days' notice the owner gets five more days to cut it, and if it is still standing, the city has it cut and sends a special tax bill that becomes a first lien at 8 percent. The city only has to send that notice once a year per property. MU Extension's mowing guide puts tall fescue at 3 to 4 inches, so a fescue lawn has only a couple of inches of room before it crosses the line.
The city does not haul yard waste on a normal week. Its Street Department says clippings, yard waste and limbs are not picked up outside the fall leaf program and severe weather. Residents can put yard waste in their trash cart or take limbs to the Recycle Center at 2100 N. Madison, though commercial tree cutters were shut out of that limb yard starting in 2025. The code also bans sweeping lawn clippings into storm drains, and the city's own yard waste sheet suggests a mulching mower. Burning takes a city permit, and permits were suspended in September 2026 during the dry spell before they resumed in October.
Big trees are part of the picture here. On June 13, 2026, a National Weather Service survey found 75 to 95 mph straight-line winds that began in the Joplin and Webb City areas and uprooted or snapped numerous trees. The Webb City Sentinel reported 5,768 cubic yards of trees hauled off within a few weeks. NOAA also logs straight-line wind across Webb City in November 2011, a brief EF-0 tornado near town in April 2015 that damaged several hardwoods, and a quarter inch of ice in February 2019. Storms like these leave limbs and leaves across a lawn long after the trucks are gone.

Leave a reviewSix inches. Webb City Code Section 220.130 calls weeds or grass a public nuisance at that height. The owner gets five days' notice and then five days to cut it, or the city cuts it and sends a special tax bill. After one notice in a year, the city can cut a repeat lot without a new notice.
Yes, once a year. Public works runs a fall leaf vacuum, and in 2025 it started December 1. Leaves go to the curb, not into the gutter, off the water meter and with no limbs mixed in. The rest of the year the city does not pick up yard waste on a normal week.
Only with a city permit, and permits get pulled in dry spells. The fire department suspended them in September 2026 while Jasper County had a burn ban, then resumed burning after the October rains. Mulching leaves into the lawn with a mower skips the permit entirely.
Mowing, edging, trimming, overgrown yard cleanup, leaf cleanup, and bush and hedge trimming. If you're not sure, just ask.
Absolutely. Weekly or biweekly service keeps the lawn looking sharp all season without you having to call every time.
